With the popularization of mobile phones, portable music players and portable game consoles, people are beginning to demand the design of these electronic devices to be more compact, high-performance, low energy consumption and low noise. Therefore, a large number of ultra-small capacitors, resistors, and EMI suppression filters are widely used in these small portable devices.
The chip ferrite beads have a simple structure and are widely used for EMI noise suppression because of their small size and convenient use. Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has been able to mass-produce 0402 size (1.0 & TImes; 0.5mm) chip ferrite beads BLM15 series, 0201 size (0.6 & TImes; 0.3mm) BLM03 series. However, in order to achieve the same noise suppression effect as large-size products, it is necessary to increase the number of coils inside the magnetic bead and increase its impedance value. In this way, the DC resistance will increase accordingly, so that the circuit power consumption will increase. This has become a problem that must be solved.
This time through the development of new materials and improved processing technology, Murata successfully developed and produced small low DC resistance products, 0402 size chip ferrite beads BLM15AX series, which is 60% lower than the previous product. As a result, this series of products saves the power consumption of small portable equipment circuits and extends the battery life.
Here is to introduce this new type of chip ferrite beads BLM15AX series.
1 Feature requirements
In small portable devices, in order to suppress noise, the ferrite beads need to have both a small size and a large impedance value of the chip type, so as to obtain efficient noise suppression characteristics and small power consumption. From the above points, the characteristics of ferrite beads can be summarized as the following points, as shown in Figure 1.

Figure 2 shows the DC resistance and resistance distribution of ferrite beads on the market (catalogue specifications). The thick arrows in the figure indicate that the ferrite beads will pursue the characteristics of low DC resistance and high impedance in the future.
The specifications of the previous 0402-type chip ferrite beads BLM15AG series (shown in ● in the figure) are distributed under the table compared with the previous chip ferrite beads (shown in the figure ◆). This time, the BLM15AX series achieved the industry's lowest resistance specifications (see ○ in the figure).
